With the holiday season upon us, it is wise to keep your health and safety in check. Injuries, emotional stress, changes in routine, and eating all the yummy (but wrong) things are common during the holidays. In order to maintain proper health, follow these tips for making healthy holiday choices.
For many, the risk of personal injury increases during the holiday season. There are all sorts of activities, like lifting your Christmas tree, hanging lights on your home and even baking cookies that lend themselves to cuts, burns, or an injured back.
If you’re decorating your Christmas tree, get help hauling it into your house, and use a ladder with someone standing behind you when you begin adding tree lights. Never use lights with broken bulbs or frayed wires.
You can also schedule an adjustment to keep your body aligned and prevent injury. With chiropractic care you can keep yourself healthy throughout the season.
Stress is another common occurrence during the holidays and something not to take lightly. If you typically experience high levels of stress during the holidays, start preparing early. Getting holiday preparations done ahead of time can make all the difference in the world in terms of your stress level.
Everyone deals with stress differently, whether it means more frequent trips to your acupuncturist, getting regular exercise for the boost of endorphins, indulging in a relaxing, therapeutic massage, or getting an adjustment from your chiropractor. While shopping, you may forget to eat and hydrate. Always have bottled water and a snack with you during your shopping trip. This will help you from overeating later or choosing unhealthy food choices at the mall’s food court.
As long as you are taking good care of yourself, you have a better chance of reducing the risk of getting a cold or flu, both of which are common near the end of the year. Make sure to wash your hands frequently to avoid germs, and take supplements or vitamins if you’re not getting them through the food you eat.
As long as you use precaution and make healthy holiday choices, you can reduce your likelihood of injury, getting a seasonal cold or flu, or having more stress than you can handle. By thinking of your health first, you help yourself and your family enjoy the holidays worry-free.
